It’s no secret I LOVE PINTEREST… if you don’t know it (hhmm, where have you been?? lol… it is a plethora of eye candy from amazing new yummy recipes, scrapbooking ideas, travel tips and inspirations, home projects, art stuff and sssoooo much more!!!) and my accounts is at under ‘vancouverscraps’
It is my Facebook for time sucking… 2 hrs will go by and I don’t even notice… I am literally on it every single day!! I have close to 3000 pins and over 1000 likes… ‘Likes’ mean they haven’t been pinned yet because I just need to check the source or their usefulness.
Ok first as I type this I am snacking… yes snacking on croutons… I know, I know; croutons… but you must try these amazing morsels. Garlic Butter Croutons
They are divine… and you won’t be able to save them simply for just salads, I promise. I am picturing them crumbled on top mac n cheese and more.
I made these roasted potatoes for my man and holy crap they were good They were so flipping good that even though they were initially for him, I ate way more than my portion as they came out of the oven, as they cooled on top and before even hitting the table. I cook them longer than the recipe calls for and I just watch them to get super crispy… I LOVE crispy!!
An abstract art piece caught my eye one day and I tried to do my own version when Doris and I were out at Raw Canvas one night – after some yummy munchies and a couple glasses of wine.
Of course, mine needed to be much less bright and in my neutral palate, but I love the way it turned out and more importantly, we had a ton of fun.
Then there is one of my most favourite canvases ever!! I came across a brightly coloured African Map of splatters on pinterest and was initially going to buy it til I figured out a way to do it myself.
I die-cut the continent with my Silhouette and dabbed a variety of, yes neutral, paints at again Raw Canvas in 2013 then brought it home to spray and splatter. and once again, love it!!
See this is why Pinterest is so brilliant to me, it is so full inspiration and ideas for you to jump from.
What have you discovered, attempted and loved from Pinterest?? Share… I can’t wait to see
Thanks tons for checking in,
As J reaches 7 1/2yrs old, and is FULLY embracing all that THAT means… if you have hung out with a 7 yr old lately then you know what I mean. 🙂
I am drawn to our simpler times and fun memories.
Here is the journalling …
You had another tooth ready to fall out any second, but tomorrow is Gr 1 picture day & your Mom was really concerned about it. So, as we headed to McDonald’s for dinner tonight, I asked you to try & chew on the other side of your mouth so you wouldn’t knock out your tooth accidentally. You thought about it for a second, than responded…
But I eat my veggies on that side.
It was such an innocent and quick response that I had no words. Man, does he have his Dad’s wit!!
Thanks for stopping by,
(this recap was posted in March but created in January for the most part… be prepared…its long)
So January in my lil world was a whirl wind, as hard as I tried to maintain my regular schedule of LIFE… it sssooooo didn’t happen.
This working 2 jobs (both full time, right now… uugghh) BLOWS… not just sucks but friggin BLOWS!! I had to cancel (or reschedule) a couple nights out with friends due to exhaustion… I even tried to convince Julian that sitting in my office talking one afternoon was more fun than our usual hockey game in the hall (he wasn’t buying it) because I had just worked 5 days straight at the store and was again, exhausted… plus I had done NOTHING towards my new 2014 goal of working out more (or at least some… which, of course, would be MORE) ….but to date, nothing…uugghh
HOWEVER>>> a wee little bit of fun was still had by yours truly… so here’s a small recap of a couple adventures.
My first week of working 5 FULL days this January ‘almost’ cost me a very large order. I was beside myself with angst over the thought of it … hhmm, well that sounds better than what was actually going on… I was fuming mad and in my mind, I wasn’t gonna lose it.
So I busted my a$$ to get it done as I promised… and started delivering at 7pm to the hotels and private residences and didn’t finish until approx 930p… BUT most importantly, I got ‘er done!! 18 health conscious baskets found homes 🙂
Again some fun times were had after this drama… Tracy and I headed up Grouse Mtn for DineOut Vancouver for snowshoeing and fondue. There was a great guided hike with tons of great info… about the Mtn, its flora and fauna as well as its wildlife. Then we went on to the observatory where they had a lovely spread set up at each table incl cheese fondue and an assortment of breads, chicken as well as vegetable stock with a huge selection of proteins and veggies then after you are overly stuffed they brought out the chocolate fondue with cookies and cakes… just heavenly.
PLUS I started getting lil signs that this might be the year for the Grizzly Bear Photo safari… like 2 of my reg photo mags had articles on them, I rec’d an email from a friend asking if I’d be interested in taking one with him, and more so I took the plunge and booked it. Because you know me, always gotta follow the signs…
Also did some shopping down south, and truly went with the intent of NOT buying black or grey… well, clearly THAT didn’t happen 🙂
Then had one of the best weekends ever… it was spend with the one and only Donna Downey… the brilliant, hilarious, infamous multi-media artist extraordinaire and all round friggin awesome person!! We hit it off immediately since we met prior to class starting… then I met her hubby Bill, whom I also fell in love with. What a dynamic amazing and insanely fun couple!!
We learned really fun and very useful techniques… she is brilliant at explaining what medium goes with what and what just doesn’t … yep that’s a toilet paper roll in the corner. She encouraged us to just PLAY… even though I am more of a rules girl…Do this, and Do that then THIS happens… but D says just throw it on the page and see what happens… scared the crap out of me 🙂
Of course, I also had her sign my art smock.. the only other instructor I have let sign my shirt is Dina Wakely so this was very fitting. Actually its super cute because she asked who the other autograph was from … I said Dina… she giggled and said ‘Oh perfect’… my thoughts exactly, since we knew that I didn’t ask a few instructors to sign it…teeheehee, such an elitest!! lol
It really is a crap-shoot when meeting an idol.. whether it’s an artist, an author, a business professional or celebrity… there is a chance you will be disappointed when you get to know THEM vs the person you have created in your head.
Then D and I headed to Whistler for an incredible weekend filled with boys, wine and fun!! Yep pretty sums it up… with of course, an agreement that we will do it all again next yr without my commitment to work at 6am the next morning… uuggh that was rough!
Then Doris very sweetly drove me out the Eagle Sanctuary so I could get some photos …sadly, we didn’t see any eagles close enough or worth grabbing since I didn’t have my big zoom but it was still a great drive with lovely scenery and, of course, perfect company.
During the Whistler weekend, I was a touch ‘pre occupied’ with a couple things at home but Doris was so perfect in understanding and being the best possible sounding board and voice of reason!! Thx D!!
So even though the month started with some great drama… it actually got loads better and I ended the month with a twinkle in my eye.
Here is my scrapbook layout of recap:
Thanks for checking in,
It has really never bothered me before but due to the concentrated amount of time spent together on the trip, it was happening every day… and was getting OLD quickly.
I knew this current habit needed to be documented in a layout and once I got grabbed this pic on my BlackBerry, I knew I could do it and him justice. Look at his cute lil fists…
90% of the page was created with Anna’s Artsy stuff including her ArtPlayPalette EnRoute, Layered Elements, Crazy Definition WordMix at Oscraps and Katie’s DateStripStampsNO2 at DD.
Thx for checking in,
Now as you know, I have met a far amount of celebrities – without much fanfare, concern or effect -through work BUT on the days counting down to this weekend; I was literally vibrating with excitement.
Dina Wakley is an international instructor (online and in-person), world-renowned designer of stencils/templates and masks as well as an author of a super popular industry book on Art Journalling techniques and Colour Theory.
And she was as ridiculously FABULOUS as I had hoped. She was warm and friendly, witty and quick, INSANELY TALENTED, generous and kind, brilliant and happy to share all that she is with each and everyone of her students. SHE WAS A TREAT and I was as crazy about her from the second I walked in the door to the last minute of the 3rd day when I packed up the car to head home.
She did a great job explaining each technique and why you would do this vs THAT… and yep, some things I choose to ignore and learn myself so we have some bad oopsie pages but it was ALL still fun. Dina’s love of vibrant colours wasn’t the easiest for this neutral, taupe and brown lovin’ girl.
This is Dina’s table of stencils, stamps and masks… she doesn’t clean them after each use… yep, was freaking me out but her casual and easy going attitude was infectious but YES, as assumed, I still had to clean my off each time 🙂 I am nothing if not, predictable 🙂
Thx tons for checking,
They also screamed to be made into a layout about this habit of his, his disdain for having his photo taken but also how ridiculously adorable he is!!!
Made with a ton of stuff from Designer Digitals, mainly from Katie.
And then once I saw this picture of my brother and beautiful wife, I knew I wanted to make another sweet simple page of them too. Its sweet and taken when they were on an adventure together discovering Oahu by motorcycle.
Love it and them!!
Again majority of products from DD with the Artsy Camera image brush from Anna, of course.
Hope you and they love them,
Thx for checking in, Carole
I am really loving Mixed Media Art because I truly believe that if you checked with good ole Mr.Webster and his dictionary, he would say that by definition ‘Mixed Media’ means throw anything and everything on a canvas and call it done!! Therefore you can do no wrong… right!!??! What’s not to love?!?
So when I had the opportunity to take a workshop from another Internationally Infamous Mixed Media Instructor, Prima Marketing Teacher and Scrapbook Product Designer from Poland, Anna Dabrowski or better known online as Finnabair, I naturally was all over it. From the sample above, you can see why she is the master.
It was an interesting process although I felt like I was winging it mostly and picking my nose bored the rest of it, Anna was out of the room mostly as well as being plagued by questions from the lady beside me the ENTIRE time, the class was just OK for me!!
My photo is that fun one from my birthday surprise with Linda and that silly balloon filled with confetti.
All the products used were provided by the store and Prima. They are mostly from Anna’s new line released at the latest CHA Show… quite a privilege to play with.
There wasn’t much direction, so didn’t really learn anything but there were a few interesting tips on new products.
So all in all, it was just OK… did I have the same ‘aahh inspiring, rock my world’ experience that I had with Dina Wakely last month…nope, not even alittle… but it was FINE… would I do another one of her classes…nope, not even a freebie… but I now have a canvas that is fun to hang, had a decent experience playing with new product and got to spend a day creating… it’s all about where you focus, right??!! So THAT is my focus!!
Thanks again for stopping by,
During J’s graduation ceremony from preschool last year, I found it incredibly frustrating that we were sitting so far from the stage and the brutal gymnasium lighing so I couldn’t get an decent shots of my nephew… and he was all dressed up and looked adorable.
So i took matters into my own hands and left my seat… while the ceremony was going on… walked up to the side of the stage where there was a large balloon bouquet, wiggled my way in-between the balloons and the edge of the stage and started to take pictures …then of course, since I wasn’t fully happy at this point either; I proceed to whisper-yell “Jay” “Jay”…”Julian” but sadly my nephew didn’t think to look in the balloon bouquet for this mystery voice so I never did catch his eye… but still it was a fun adventure trying to get the best possible shot of my favourite pre-schooler!!
Yep that’s how I roll!!! I only wished E or C thought to get a photo of me for evidence bit now that I think of it, they were probably too embarrassed of my behavior to get any pics. 🙂
This was a fun layout and the majority of it was from an old Sassafrass kit…. the left-overs from the Silly Monster layout done a couple yrs ago, I misted thru one of Rhonna’s camera templates onto the background, I wrapped alil camera washi tape around a generic big brad, an epoxy button on top of a piece of vintage dictionary as well as a graduation card gift card holder.
Thx for checking in,
duh, yes I know the rest of the planet was able to start playing with it over a year ago but my beloved BlackBerry App World just doesn’t play well with a lot of APPS and truthfully it never bothered before (or since) INSTAGRAM!!
I knew as soon as I heard about it and then started seeing people’s posts on it, that I really really wanted it … I wanted to play, to edit my photos uses those filters and to post some fun shots like ones of my yummy pasta last month.
I was over the moon when a friend showed me how use the ‘work around’ through Blackberry and I couldn’t have been happier … I am loving it as much as I knew I would. Sadly there are still some parts of the app I can’t figure out but have been thrilled with every part I can get to work.
THEN last week I designed and ordered a super fun cushion with some of my favourite Spring 2013 Instagram pics for my scrap room chair.
I LOVE it and can’t wait for it to arrive
thx for checking in, Carole
